The College, situated in Bangalore was started during the academic year 1963-64 under the aegis of the BMS EDUCATIONAL TRUST. Trust is named after Late Rajakaryaprasaktha B. M. Sreenivasaiah, whose philanthropy resulted in the First Engineering College under the Private Management of the State of Karnataka. Initially, the college was affiliated to Mysore University, later it was affiliated to Bangalore University and now to Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) and is approved by Bar Council of India, New Delhi also. During the inception of the College, the Administrative Principal, Late A G Ramachandra Rao, was the Minister for Education in Mysore. His successors Hon'ble Mr. Justice E S Venkataramaiah and Mr. Justice M N Venkatachalaiah, former Chief Justices of India, were in the first decade, associated with the funding the institution.
The College is proud to mention that Mr. Justice Rama Jois, former Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court and, Hon'ble Late Mr. Justice H. G. Balakrishna, former Judge, High Court of Karnataka, Hon'ble Mr. Justice S R Nayak, former Judge, High Court of Karnataka & former Chief Justice, former Minister of Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Karnataka also served the institution in several capacities including as members of teaching faculty.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

An applicant who has successfully completed Pre-University course or Senior Secondary School Course or equivalent from a recognized University/Institution of India or outside or from Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, recognized by the Central or State Government of India or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that Country for the purpose of issue of International certificate equivalent to 10+2 on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the course The minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination should not be below 45% of total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of total marks in case of SC and ST applicants.

Admissions to the first year of the 3-year LL.B. course, in all colleges under the jurisdiction of Karnataka State Law University, is strictly based on merit and based on the marks secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination.

BMS Coillege of law offers the Government of India Scholarships and Government of Karnataka Scholarships to the students belonging to the Backward, SC and ST students etc. BMS also provides loan scholarships covering tuition fee up to 70% for the deserving students. The scholarship is also provided to the meritorious and economically backward students.
